Families gathered at Mill Pond Park for one of last year's Movie in the Park events.

It's a great weekend to spend in town with your friends and family. Here's a list of some of the great things happening in Saline this weekend.

Movie in the Park

What: Movie in the Park
When: Friday evening
Where: Mill Pond Park, 565 W Bennett
Why: Bring your blankets, family and friends and watch Finding Nemo under the stars. Lots of kids games and activites.

Saline Farmers Market

What: Saline Farmers Market

When: 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday

Where: South Ann Arbor Street

Why: Fresh produce and baked goods, produced by local farmers and bakers.

Solar Open House and EV Ride & Drive

What: Solar Open House and EV Ride & Drive

When: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday

Where: 104 W. McKay St

Why: Have you been thinking about going green? See how it's done at a local home where three different solar installations along with energy and insulation modifications that have made this 1890 victorian cross gable a net zero house.  Energy generated by the solar systems exceeds the energy consumed by the house including charging both the electric vehicles. Also, test drive electric vehicles.

Steve Kovich Plays at Brewed Awakenings

What:Steve Kovich plays at Brewed Awakenings

When: 6:30 p.m.

Where: Brewed Awakenings Cafe, Moon Road and Michigan Avenue

Why: Steve Kovich writes songs which are mostly fiction, yet found to be entirely the truth. His gentle vocals and love of acoustic music shines through in all of his performances. Steve is a longtime member of Songwriters Anonymous, a local songwriting collective. 

Rec Center's 25th Anniversary

What: Saline Rec Center's 25th Anniversary Celebration

When: 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday

Where: Saline Rec Center

Why: A special ceremony will be held at 1 pm at the flag pole entrance.  Immediately following the short ceremony, the doors will open for a cake and punch reception in the lobby and the Rec Center will be open to the community until 4pm free of charge.  Swimming, music, games, hotdogs, Zumba, bounce house, facepainting by 212 and Magic Joe are all some of the many things you will enjoy.   Free for the entire community.

Summer Reading Kickoff

What: Summer Reading Kickoff

When: 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday

Where: Saline District Library

Why:  Join the library staff for the Annual Summer Reading Kick-Off from 1-5 pm.  This year’s theme is “ON YOUR MARK, GET SET, READ!” Sign up for Summer Reading, enjoy live music, ice cream and more! Please check our Events Calendar on the Saline District Library website for specific registration dates for K-1 Fun, Kaleidoscope, Art on the Go, books clubs, and much more.
