The Lady Hornets showed they can run, jump and throw against the top athletes in the state during the Golden Triangle meet at Saline High School Friday. Athletes from 31 schools competed at the event.
Junior Quenee Dale continued her fantastic season.
Dale won the 100 dash in 12.54 seconds, edging Canton-Salem’s Khyli Ray. Saline Senior Amanada Luurtsema was ninth (12.98) and freshman Autumn Godette was 14th (13.15).
Dale blew away the competition in her signature event – the 100 hurdles. She finished the race in 14.66 seconds, more than a half second faster than second place Lauren Rodriguez, of Northville. Saline’s Natalie Wysocki was fourth in 15.80 seconds. Wendy Szuminski was 12th in 17.48 seconds.
Saline’s other individual victory came in the shot put, where senior Randi Bennett threw a season high 40-09.5, nearly a foot further than the second place finisher. Saline freshman Erin Connor finished ninth with a throw of 34-08. Bennett also had a strong showing in the discus, where she finished second with a throw of 128-02.
Saline’s other victory came in the 4-by-100 relay. The 4-by-400 and 4-by-800 relay teams finished second. The 4-by-200 team finished third.
There were other strong individual performances. Abby Rentschler was second in the 3200 meter run (11:03). Alyssa Cummings took fourth (11:11).
Natalie Wysocki took third in the 300 hurdles (47.16). In the 800 meter run, Lauren Green was third (2:18) and Hannah Cummings was eighth. Alexa Ross finished sixth in the 200 dash.
Jackie Marchildon (16-05.25) was sixth in long jump. Sarah Palmerton finished 13th. Wendy Szuminski was seventh in high jump (4-11). Lauren Sayre was ninth and Emma Tokuuyama, Brittany Nagel and Kyra Ross were 14th. Szuminski was fifth in pole vault (10 feet).
Gillian Water won the freshman 1600 meter race. Haleigh Cummings, 4th, Katie Fedoronko, 8th, Lillie Phelps, 10th, Danielle Fillmore, 12th, Alexa Reyst, 14th, and Taelor Young, 15th, also had top 15 finishes.
