Stephen Slattery is a rare three-sport athlete at Saline High School. He's was an all-sec linebacker for a state championship finalist - making perhaps the biggest play of the season against Cass Tech with an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown. Slattery's goal is to wrestle at the Palace and make the top eight, and to run in the state meet for the track and field team.
To say the Saline football state finals run captured the town’s attention is an understatement. Thousands of current and former Saline residents visited Ford Field Saturday to watch Saline play Clarkston. The Hornets fell 33-25 in a game that was in doubt until the final moment. The loss was tough to swallow for the Hornets on the field. But the Hornets all over town couldn’t have been more proud.
The Saline High School football team, the marching band, the student section and thousands of Salinians visited Ford Field in Detroit, Saturday, to watch Saline play Clarkston in the MHSAA Division Football Championship.
