Saline area residents were among people in nine states who saw a fireball light up the sky Tuesday night.
The American Meteor Society, which collects data on meteor sightings, recieved 176 reports on a fireball seen at about 8:17 p.m., Jan. 29, The fireball was spotted in Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
After receiving an inquiry from a resident who saw a fireball in the southern sky in York Township, the Saline Post asked readers on Facebook if they saw anything. Jennifer Truskowski said it was hard to explain what she saw. She and her husband driving in Saline when she saw it. At first, she thought it was a plane.
"It dropped from the sky with a bright orange, yellow ball and greenish tail. Pretty amazing," she said.
City of Saline Clerk Terri Royal also saw it.
"I saw a red, orangish ball dropping from the sky, a lot like a shooting star, but much bigger," Royal said, adding that she thought it was a plane crashing.
