Gretchen Driskell, the longtime Saline mayor and Democratic candidate for the 52nd district in the Michigan House of Representatives, will hold a press conference at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the now closed Houghton Elementary School in Saline.

Driskell, joined by State Rep. Jeff Irwin (D-Ann Arbor), will demand the restoration of funding to Michigan's public schools, colleges and universities. In 2011, Republicans in Lansing cut public school funding by nearly $1 billion and cut higher education funding by 15 percent to pay for a tax cut for businesses and balance the budget..

Driskell is running against incumbent State Rep. Mark Ouimet, R-Scio Twp..
