Just in time for holiday shopping, a new website –IBuyAmericanStore.com – has launched to help U.S. consumers looking for American-made products.
The site is the brainchild of Mark Schlicher, 44, of Saline, Michigan. “It’s my belief,” he says, “that Americans will choose to buy American-made products if it’s easy for them to do so. They’ll make the effort – and pay the higher cost, if necessary – to support American jobs.”
As noted on IBuyAmericanStore.com’s home page: “There are about 250 million Americans of age 18 and over. If every adult purchased just $50 worth of American-made products, we’d generate $12.5 billion for our own economy.”
Schlicher conceived the site to resemble a brick-and-mortar shopping experience. Visitors enter what looks like a real store, and browse among departments to find items of interest. From there shoppers link to the manufacturers’ own websites, where they can purchase their products online. IBuyAmericanStore.com charges no premium to site visitors for making these links.
Schlicher’s aim with IBuyAmericanStore.com is to encourage U.S. consumers to seek out and buy American-made products. This, he asserts, will help expand the nation’s manufacturing base and promote middle-class prosperity.
As Schlicher notes, “Many assume there’s little that’s still made in the U.S. When we look on our local stores’ shelves, we may not see many ‘Made in America’ products. But the fact is that the U.S. still leads the world in manufacturing. And we, as American consumers, can choose to support American manufacturing – and good jobs for our fellow Americans – by showing our preference for American-made products.”
Schlicher was born and raised in Laingsburg, Michigan, a small town near Lansing. He learned the values of hard work, personal responsibility, education, and pride in country from his parents. His father was a United Auto Workers member, and his mother held two jobs outside the home – as a cashier and a school bus driver.
Per Schlicher, “Choosing to buy American is a chance to control our own destiny. It sends a message that American-made products are in high demand, and it tells businesses that, to capture our dollars, they’ll need to bring manufacturing jobs back home.”
Companies that manufacture wholly or mainly in the U.S. may request to have their products appear on IBuyAmericanStore.com. They can reach Schlicher at (734) 316-2725 or mark (at) ibuyamericanstore (dot) com.
