The Lady Hornets overcame shooting and rebounding woes to win the home opener against Lutheran North. But they couldn’t do it Tuesday falling 39-25 to Canton.

Saline made just 10 of 47 shots and was 0-for-6 from three point range. The Hornets were also out rebounded 28-21.

Caitlin Ellis let Saline with 10 points. She also had seven rebounds.

"We didn't start well tonight - Canton plays great defense and they took us out of a lot of sets that we wanted to run offensively. We settled down in the second half and actually had a great chance to cut the lead to five but we couldn't get over the hurdle," said Saline coach Jeff Waltz. "That game is a great test to see where we are at against one of the state's best teams so we're eager to apply what we learned and get better for Thursday."

Saline fell to 1-1 overall.

The girls return to action Thursday at Adrian.

Saline's junior varsity team lost to Canton, 27-18. The Saline freshmen won, 39-22
