It’s been a busy early afternoon for the Saline Area Fire Department. After serving lunch to the 20 10th grade exchange students from Lindenberg, Germany, the firefighters were sent to three calls in 45 minutes.

At 12:45 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to York township for a medical run. A short time later, the fire department was dispatched to Abel and Hack Road where a US Post Office delivery vehicle went off the road and crashed into a tree.

Fire Chief Craig Hoeft said the driver was transported to hospital for injuries that weren’t serious.

At the same time, a Saline fire tanker was dispatched to the 6800 block Marshall Road in Scio Township to assist with a fire at a UofM laboratory.

All the action began just as 10th grade exchange students from Lindenberg, Germany, were wrapping up a lunch-time visit at the firehouse. Firefighters grilled hot dogs and Hoeft served the “Chief’s Award-Winning Chili” to the guests of Saline High School German teacher Sara Shuster.
