The Saline Chamber is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2016 Saline Salutes Awards.  Nominations were gathered in February and the honorees then selected by a panel of community leaders representing a cross-section of the Saline area.

The Saline Salutes Awards, presented annually, are the most widely-respected and prestigious recognition of the citizen contributions from individuals living or working in the Saline area.  This year’s honorees are:

Citizen of the Year – Wendy Beardsley

Wendy has been an active community supporter for many years.  As head of the Pleasant Ridge PTA, she led the Play Park project. She then went on to develop the Cystic Fibrosis Winter Beach Blast event which has raised around $250,000 to date.  Wendy was also involved in the start of Saline Alive, an organization to raise awareness of suicide and depression that won the “Education Excellence Award”

Lifetime Achievement – Wayne Clements

Wayne was instrumental in developing the Saline Area Historical Society into the thriving organization that it is today.  His tireless work, both intellectual and physical, contributed immensely to preserving Saline’s heritage.  Wayne passed away on December 31, 2015 but his legacy lives on and serves as an inspiration.

Orrin Parsons Distinguished Veteran Award – Tim Driscoll

As a Vietnam era veteran, Tim served in Friedberg, Germany and was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense and Good Conduct ribbons.  In Saline, Tim set to work supporting the veterans of all eras through visits, projects and awareness. He has also held lead roles in many veterans’ organizations in the Saline Area.

First Responder Award – Dave Ringe

You can hardly have a conversation about the DARE program or Safety Town without talking about Officer Dave!  Dave gave his heart to those programs and the thousands of Saline students who participated throughout the years.  He is compassionate and thoughtful in his community interactions above and beyond the expectations of his job as a Saline Police officer.

Youth of the Year – Aidan Carichner

The long list of this young man’s accomplishments is commendable all on its own – National Honor Society, Cross Country and Track, and more – but he also has a passion for helping others, as evidenced by his contributions to the Nike Better World ReUse A Shoe Recycle Program.

These outstanding award recipients will be honored at the 27th Annual Saline Salutes Awards Program on Friday, April 22 at 5:30pm at the Saline High School.  Cost for the event is $20 for Adults, $10 for Students, ages 6-18, for reservations made by April 15. Included is a reception with entertainment, artwork by artists from the Two Twelve Arts Center, appetizers and desserts (including a cake auction!) provided by the South and West Consortium Culinary Arts Program, and the Awards Presentation Ceremony.

Please make reservations by calling the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce at 734.429.4494 or visit the Saline Chamber’s website, www.salinechamber.org.  The event is generously sponsored by Walmart, Raymond Howe Orthodontics, Saline Pharmacy, Brewed Awakening, LaFontaine Automotive Group, and MMI Engineering.
