The National Institutes of Health report that as many as 70 million Americans may be affected by chronic sleep loss or sleep disorters.

SalineAlive kicks presents “The Importance of Sleep,” at 7 p.m., Sept. 30, in the media center at Liberty School, 7265 N. Ann Arbor St.

Deirdre Conroy, a clinical associate professor in the University of Michigan Department of Pscyhiatry and Clinical Director of the Bheavioral Sleep Medicine Program, will present the latest findings on the ways sleep impacts health and strategies to improve sleep habits.

A panel of experts will help answer the public’s questions. The panel includes Kim Bryant, associate director of University of Michigan undergraduate admissions, Shelley Hershner, Director of the University of Michigan Collegiate Sleep Disorders Clinic, and Brian Pearson, Clinical Director of Still Waters Counseling in Saline.

The event, part of the Bright Nights Community Forum series, is sponsored by SalineAlive and the University of Michigan Depression Center. The event is free of charge and open to the public.
