Amber Alert Update: Brighton Girl Found Safe in Florida

UPDATE: The Amber Alert for Sapphire Palmer has been cancelled as she was found safe in Florida, according to Michigan State Police.

An Amber Alert has been issued for a seven-year-old Brighton girl believed to be in danger.

Sapphire Palmer, 7, is believed to be in a red 2001 Ford Escape with the license plate of 2HVA18. She is about four feet tall and weighs 55 pounds. She has red hair and green eyes..

According to the alert the girl's mother, Amanda Hayward, is suffering from an "apparent mental episode." She is paranoid-delusional and may be armed with a 9 mm semi-auto handgun, according to the alert. Hayward and her daughter are believed to be in the company of Douglas Steven Stanko, a 64-year-old man who is a registered sex offender. Stanko is 5'8, 169 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
