A Saline family received devastating news Wednesday when they learned that Geoffrey Michael Bowen, 28, was found dead in his vehicle in Northfield Township, near US-23 and North Territorial Road.

Bowen, who grew up in Saline and lived in Brooklyn, had been missing since March 31. He left a suicide note with his mother the following day. A Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq, Bowen had been struggling with post-traumatic stress.

According to a release from the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff, a Michigan State Police helicopter located Bowen’s 1989 Ford Bronco in a wooded area. Northfield Township Police approached the vehicle and found Bowen dead.

Northfield Township Police are investigating.

Bowen graduated from Saline High School in 2005, the youngest of three brothers. He joined the Marines in 2005. He was deployed in Iraq in 2007 and 2008 and left the service as a corporal, according to Marine Corps Times. He served with the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines.
