A love spat helped cause a single-car crash that sent a 19-year-old Clinton woman to hospital with injuries that aren’t considered serious.

Around 12:15 a.m. the Clinton woman was westbound in her Nissan Altima on Michigan Avenue near Industrial Drive when she swerved to avoid striking a vehicle that was going slowly on Michigan Avenue, according to Pittsfield Township Deputy Chief of Police Gordy Schick.

The car swerved, struck a row of mailboxes and hit a few small trees before rolling over. The Nissan landed on its rooftop, Schick said. The woman’s airbag was deployed. She was transported to the hospital by Huron Valley Ambulance.

Schick said the woman came up upon a vehicle that was driving very slowly and following a pedestrian on the roadway shoulder. Apparently, Schick said, there was an argument between the boyfriend, the driver, and his girlfriend, the pedestrian.

Schick said that alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash.

Michigan Avenue was closed near Industrial Drive for a short period of time.
