A man is dead after apparently opening fire on his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend on Saline's westside Thursday night. The woman and her boyfriend were transported to hospital in critical and unstable condition, according to Joyce Williams, spokesperson for Huron Valley Ambulance.
Saline Police Department Sgt. Jay Basso said police believe the ex-boyfriend arrived at the 700 block of Valley Circle and used a small caliber handgun to shoot his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend. The man then apparently went into the apartment and shot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene shortly before 9:30 p.m..
All three gunshot victims were in their mid-to-late 20s, Basso said.
Juwain Hughes, a resident of the apartment complex, said he third three pops, then some commotion, and a few more pops.
"At first I thought it was fireworks. And then I heard screaming and yelling and crying. It's not something you'd ever expect to see in Saline. You see this on the news on television, but you don't expect it here," said Hughes, a Saline High School graduate who works in downtown Ann Arbor.
Hughes said he didn't know the victims well, but he said the woman was known to everyone because she often walked her huskies through the neighborhood.
Sgt. Basso said more information would be released Friday morning.
