Mark Weist, a 2010 graduate of Saline High School who plays third base for the Michigan State University Spartans, was named to the All-Big Ten First Team Tuesday.
Weist, a senior, is batting .335 and leads the team with 17 doubles and 73 hits. He’s had hits in 44 of 54 games and had 22 multi-hit games for the Spartans. In the field, he has a .924 fielding percentage.
This is Weist’s first year playing for MSU. He attended Spring Arbor University in his freshman and sophomore years. As a sophomore he hit .392 and led the team in homers (8), doubles (16), triples (3), on base percentage (.480) and slugging percentage (.746).
He transferred to MSU and was red-shirted in his junior year.
As a senior at Saline High School, Weist hit .595 (a team record) with 10 homers (tied for a team record), 63 runs scored (team record), 1.115 slugging percentage (team record) and .660 slugging percentage (team record).
Weist is the son of Jon and Beverly Weist.
He is studying packaging at MSU.
