Emily White shot a 77 to help Saline to a solid seventh place finish at the Suntel Invitational at the Birmingham Country Club Monday.
The Lady Hornets golf club came in with a score of 360 to place seventh in a field that included many of the state's top teams. Grosse Pointe South won the tournament with a score of 332.
White's score of 77 tied her for third overall. Freshman Samantha Kellstrom continued her stellar play with a score of 84. Stacy Cruz shot a 97 and Louisa Antonelli shot a 102 to complete the Hornets scoring.
"Emily and Samantha played really well today," said coach Betsy French. "And although their scores don't show it, the other players played a lot of good holes, just getting derailed on a couple of big holes."
French said the Birmingham course has a challenging layout with elevation changes requiring a variety of shots that aren't easy to practice for.
The challenging tournament will serve the Hornets well as they prepare for next Wednesday's golf regional.
"We knew this tournament would be tough but it was another opportunity to play with the state's top teams. We know what we need to do to get to that level and now it's just a matter of working hard on the small things over the next week leading up to regionals," French said.
The regional tournament takes place at Pineview Golf Course Wednesday.
