Saline High School senior and Girl Scout Allison Collins is on a campaign to raise funds, purchase the American flag for every classroom in the school district, and educate the community about flag etiquette.

Residents can contribute to Collins' project by donating to the Saline Area Schools Flag Fund.

Thanks to new legislation, school districts must give students the opportunity to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every day. The change takes effect next fall. The district anticipates the need for 150 flags.

Collins is a local Girl Scout who has been selected to be part of the elite Girl Scout Troop known as the Mackinac Honor Guard. The troop raises and lowers the flags on Mackinac Island. This project is her Gold Award Project, which is the Girl Scouts' equivalent of the Eagle Scout project.
