The temperature is falling but things are heating up in Saline this weekend. Here’s a look at some of the action that Saline residents were thought enough to share on our free community calendar. Know of any other great events going on in or around town? Add them in the comments below.

Fish Fry

What: The Knights of Columbus serve beer battered cod, baked seasoned, tilapia, French fries, salad, au gratin potatoes, mac and cheese, broccoli salad, cole slaw and more.
When: 4-7 p.m., Friday (March 3-April 7)
Where: St. Andrew Church, 910 Austin Road.
Why: Great dinner, great people. Supports a group that benefits the community.
Cost: $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $6 for children (children under 6 eat free)


What: The Saline High School Drama Club presents Pippin, the Steve Schwartz musical about a young prince on a journey to find his purpose.
When: 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday.
Where: Ellen Ewing Performing Arts Center, Saline High School
Why: Check out the video below.
Cost: $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors (60 and up).

Saline Farmers Market

What: The Saline Indoor Farmers Market
When: 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday
Where: Liberty School
Why: Fresh baked goods, greenhouse grown produce, handcrafted items and more.
Cost: No entry fee.

Chili Wars

What: The 5th Corner Chili Wars features 17 local chili cooks battling for bragging rights and their favorite charity.
When: 11:30 a.m., Saturday
Where: Fifth Corner Teen Center (Corner of South Ann Arbor Street and Willis Road).
Why: Sample chili from Dan Kolander, Kim Kaster, Karen Carrigan and many local celebrities, including Fire Chief Hoeft. Proceeds benefit the Fifth Corner Teen Center and the charity of the winning chili cook.
Cost: Buy tickets to vote for your favorite chili. 20 tickets costs $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Winter Beach Blast

What: The last Winter Beach Blast to benefit Cystic Fibrosis.
When: 6:30 p.m., Saturday until late.
Where: Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds.
Why: It’s one of the best winter parties around. Entertainment includes comedian Mark Knope and the cover band 50 Amp Fuse. There’s a silent auction and raffle item too. The event benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Cost: Tickets are $50/each. Get tickets here by Friday (click).

Regional Final Hockey

What: Saline faces off against SEC Red Rival Skyline for the Division 2 Regional Final.
When: 7 p.m. Saturday
Where: The Ice Cube
Why: One, to cheer on your Hornets. Two, because it’s hockey on a Saturday night. Three, because Saline’s run-and-gun offense is a ton of fun. With a victory, Saline advances to the state quarterfinals Tuesday against Plymouth or Livonia Churchill.
Cost: $5.
