Saline Area Players will hold Auditions for OLIVER! on Saturday, August 5 at the Ellen E. Ewing Performing Arts Center/(Saline High School Auditorium), 1300 Campus Parkway, Saline, MI.  Children going into grades 1st – 8th should attend 10AM-12 noon (pre-registration begins at 9:30 AM).  High school kids through adults should attend from 1-3 PM (pre-registration starts at 12:30 PM).  Callbacks, as needed, will be Sunday, August 6 at 2 PM.

This popular musical, based on Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist set in Victorian England, directed by Rebecca Groeb with musical direction by Robert Cindric, will be performed October 20-22.  Full information about auditions is available on the website at

All attending should plan on remaining for their entire audition session. These will be “open” auditions, meaning all auditioning will be able to watch others try out.  Those auditioning will be asked to fill out an audition form and conflict calendar and will be given a number and have their picture taken before the session begins.  Please be sure to bring a calendar or list of all dates and specific times you will be unavailable for rehearsals between now and the shows!  You can also download an audition form and conflict sheet from the website.

For kids going into 1st-8th grades, come prepared to sing 16 measures/one verse of a song from the show (we will be teaching one at the audition workshop!) and do improvisational exercises based on characters and scenarios from the actual script.  An accompanist will be provided but please bring sheet music.  NOTE:  This session will be a closed audition - parents will not be allowed to watch but are welcome to wait in an adjoining room until the session has finished!

Rehearsals will take place on Monday-Thursday nights beginning at 6:30 or 7:00 pm beginning the week of August 14.  A very specific schedule will be created (based as much as possible on actor conflicts!) that will indicate what days you will be needed.  You will be expected to attend all designated rehearsals unless you have indicated your unavailability in advance.  Children's ensemble members will generally be released by 8 or 8:30 with the exception of dress rehearsal week.

Information about roles available, time commitment, and more about the plot are on the website at  If you have additional questions, contact director Rebecca Groeb at 734-330-7327 or email at
