Celebrate Independence Day Saturday at the Depot Museum in in Saline.

The Saline Area Historical Society presents the Third Annual Wayne Clements Memorial Day Independence Day event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum, located near the northeast corner of Ann Arbor and Bennett Streets.

The free, family-friendly event also celebrates the arrival of the first train to Saline, which arrived July 4, 1870.

The event features

  • Tours of the depot, livery barn and caboose.
  • Antique tractor display.
  • Velocipede rides on the railroad tracks.
  • Archeological digs for kids.
  • A bounce house and obstacle course for kids.
  • Kids games.
  • Refreshments provided by Saline Kiwanis and the Saline Lions.
  • Photo opportunities in a 1903 Olds.
  • Free copies of the US Constitution.
  • Selections from the historical society’s gift shop.

Parking is available at Henne Field.

The event is named in honor of Wayne Clements, the long-time Saline resident and historian who passed away in 2015. It was Clements who organized the inaugural Independence Day event at the Depot Museum in 2015. The trail along the railroad track by the Depot Museum is now know as the Wayne Clements Memorial Depot Trail.
