AJ Korzuck drove in five runs on five hits, Gage Hammond led of both games with dingers, and Brett Nearing threw a three-hit shutout.

The Saline Area Players wrapped up its production of Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka Sunday in the Ellen A. Ewing Performing Arts Center at Saline high School.

Directed by Tami Hindes (artistic) and Robert Cindric (music), Willy Wonka the major production this year for the Saline Area Players, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Like so many other productions over the years, Willy Wonka gave actors young and old the chance to show their talents on stage.

Willy Wonka was produced by Mary Rumman.

Saline's relay teams won a couple distance races and the shot put relay.

The following are briefs from Monday’s Saline City Council meeting.

·         Richard McGuire was appointed to the city’s Arts & Culture Committee to complete the term of Karen Ragland, who resigned due to health reasons.


The Saline girls’ water polo teams hosted an invitational tournament Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the varsity team fell to Grand Haven, 5-3, and defeated Troy, 12-2.  Ariana Brown scored four goals to pace the Hornets.

The varsity team fell to Huron to start the day Saturday but bounced back to defeat Dexter, 5-4.

Huron won the tournament.

The junior varsity team fell to Groves, 9-3, Friday.

The junior varsity team fell to Moose (Ohio) 12-2, on Saturday.

This year's crop of nominees bodes well for the future of Saline, Mayor Marl says.

Already down four girls, Saline's depth was stretched further when goalie Hannah Sheth was hurt and forward Caitlin Ellis played between the pipes in the second half.

Tommy Hickey and Brett Braun led Saline past Huron Friday.

Winter is winding down and Spring is in the air. Our indoor Farmers Market has just two Saturdays left before we move outdoors and downtown.

After a defensive struggle in the first half, Saline's girls varsity water polo team lost 8-0 to Dexter.

Saline's junior varsity girls' water polo team fell to Dexter, 13-8 Thursday. The Lady Hornets were down 12-4 when they scored four goals in just a few minutes to make it interesting.

Chapin Patel led Saline with four goals. Abbey Wangler scored twice. Mandy Satin and Emily Mueller also scored for Saline.

April is Autism Awareness month and Alcohol Awareness Month. It is also Counseling Awareness Month. In other words, it’s a month of bringing focus to real and possible mental disorders that affect individuals and families in significant numbers. It is also a month to increase awareness of avenues available for help.

Michigan's State Boundary Commission denied the proposed annexing of several Lodi Township properties to the City of Saline.

Boundary Commission representative Kevin O'Brien said the commission voted unanimously to deny the proposal, originally requested by Keystone Community Church and then expanded to include other Lodi Township property owners.

"We didn't feel this was in the best interest of the whole area -- especially to the landowners who were brought into the proposal," O'Brien said.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Southeast Michigan until 6 p.m. Thursday.

Thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and this evening all across Southeast Michigan, according to the weather service's hazardous weather outlook. The storms could bring damaging winds of 70 miles per hour, torrential rainfall, one-inch hail and isolated tornadoes.

The watch comes on top of a flood watch already issued, as up to three inches of rain may fall on the already saturated ground by Friday morning.
