Elianna Shwayder ran the third fastest time in Hornet history and Lauren Green and Gillian Walter joined her on the all-state podium.


The Youth Theater Guild presents The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe this weekend at Liberty School.

Salines cross country teams proved once again that they are among the best in the state.

In Friday's 31-17 win over Pioneer, Saline set a record with its 10th win of the season. The Hornets also won their second district championship in team history.

Saline remains at home in the next round. The Hornets will host Dearborn or Cass Tech.

Friday night’s 31-17 victory over Pioneer was one for the ages.

It was Saline’s first district championship since 2006. It was the Hornets’ first 10-win season ever. And it was time in seven long weeks the Hornets got their rematch against the only team to leave a blemish on what has otherwise been a perfect season.


Saline High School senior Jessica Lipa is one of seven Saline High School National Merit Scholarship semifinalists.

David Rhoads, Dean Girbach and Lee Bourgoin are running for office.


Redistrict means that two sitting county commissioners, Alicia Ping and Wesley Prater, are facing off in the November election.


The November Saline Craft Show will benefit 14 school groups.



The Lady Hornets volleyball team will play in the MHSAA Division 1 District final against Bedford Saturday night in yet another post-season clash of SEC Red teams.

Wednesday night, Saline downed Monroe 25-17, 25-13 and 25-17 to advance to Saturday’s final, which begins at 7 p.m. at Saline High School.

Sophomore Kara Rogers led the Hornets with 15 kills and 28 digs. Ani Agbabian had seven kills and nine digs. Mallory Luke had a big day with 15 digs and six aces. Taylor Whitling provided 29 assists.

Saturday, November 3 marks the opening of the Indoor Saline Winter Farmers Market.  Now in its second full season the Winter Market brings a valuable shopping resource for all customers who have enjoyed the Summer Farmers Markets and want to continue to shop all year long…plus those folks who want to shop indoors during the winter.  Saline is fortunate to have a space large enough at Liberty School to house a Winter Market making shopping easy, warm and cozy. 

State Rep. Mark Ouimet, R-Scio Township, defended his record on education Wednesday, saying Michigan schools are in better shape today because of reforms made by Republicans in Lansing. And, Ouimet said, he has the support of local school officials as a result.

I have had the honor of serving Saline both as its Mayor and as a Trustee of the Saline Area Schools.  I have closely followed the career of Mayor Driskell as another public servant deeply concerned about quality public education.  Gretchen has worked consistently and with purpose at enhancing the relationship between the community and its schools.  She cares about kids and understands the direct relationship between support for education and a local economy.
