The Saline Area Historical Society presents an educational program, "The Great Prairie at Waltz, MI" with Bob Wittersheim at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13, at the Saline District Library.
This program will recognize the natural prairies and savannas that existed in southern Michigan prior to European settlement. These open lands, 2.5 million acres it is estimated, disappeared under the plow in a few generations. Today, tiny prairie remnants supply native seed stock to countless restoration projects, some in our area. Where is Waltz, Michigan? It is a small community east or southeast of Belleville, in Western Wayne County.
This is the last education program of the calendar year. As with all our SAHS programs, it is free. It will be held in the library's Brecon Room.
