Daniel Leroy Whitcomb, age 79, passed away on Thursday, May 30 at the University of Michigan Hospital.  Dan was born on January 5, 1940 in Flint, MI. Daniel led a life of service to others.  From serving his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps to serving his family through hard work as an independent contractor and later as a business owner. Danny always had others needs in front of his own. Creating a business that provided a livelihood for so many and touched so many lives was one of Dan’s proudest accomplishments.  The number of people Dan touched and helped throughout his career will never be known as Danny tended to be modest about his giving.

Dan’s greatest source of pride was his family.  Dan was proceeded in death by his parents Wilbur and Geraldine (Chapman) Whitcomb.  Dan is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl, and 6 wonderful children: Lenea (Don) Crawford, Steven (Tamara) Whitcomb, Dean (Michelle) Whitcomb, Shari Whitcomb-Grigg, Katelyn (David Vigna) Baker, and Charles Baker IV.  Dan is also survived by 11 beautiful grandchildren: Jason Crawford, Dayna Crawford, Sarah Whitcomb, Matt Whitcomb, Elizabeth Whitcomb, Ryan (Andrea) Carusi, Eric Whitcomb, Ethan Whitcomb, Brett Whitcomb, Jenna Whitcomb, and Samantha Grigg.  Daniel is also survived by siblings Gene (Sherry) Whitcomb, Gary (Carol) Whitcomb and Annette (Dennis) Szado as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Dan preferred not to have a funeral.  Dan’s family and friends were blessed with over 6 extra years with him due to the amazing efforts of Henry Ford Hospital’s Heart and Vascular Institute.  In lieu of flowers Dan’s family would encourage donations to Henry Ford Hospital and their great work.  Donations can be made at Make A Gift
