A family of five was forced from their home by a fire early Monday morning in Lodi Township. There were no injuries.

Saline firefighters were dispatched to the 3700 block of Meadow Lane shortly before midnight. Firefighters arrived to find the roof of the two-story home fully involved, according to Fire Chief Craig Hoeft. Because the fire was on the exterior of the structure, firefighters were able to quickly get the fire under control.

Early Monday morning firefighters weren’t sure what caused the blaze.

Hoeft said that the homeowner was asleep in his bed when he woke up because a fan went off. He noticed the power went out so he went out to his balcony to look around the neighborhood. That’s when he saw flames on the roof. The man woke his family and they evacuated their homes.

“It’s fortunate the man woke up when he did. This could have been a lot worse,” Hoeft said.

Saline firefighters were assisted on the scene by firefighters from Pittsfield, who brought a tanker because there are no fire hydrants in the Lodi Township neighborhood.

Fire destroyed the roof of the home. Hoeft estimated damage would be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
