Numerous bands of lake effect snow, combined with very cold temperatures, have combined to create extremely hazardous driving conditions on area roadways... and especially on the freeways.

Two heavy snow bands of snow moved through Washtenaw County between 6 and 9 p.m. and a third band of heavy lake effect snowfall is moving though at this time.  Temperatures will continue to fall to around six degrees tonight, which will keep road surface temperatures well below freezing.

Numerous vehicle crashes have been reported.  Travel is strongly discouraged tonight.  If you must drive, allow for a significant drive time.  Slow down and remember to increase your following distance.
