New Intro to Rowing Class Offered at Saline Rec Center
Saline Rec Center will collaborate with the Saline High School rowing team by utilizing the team’s Concept 2 ergs when the team is at practice or in competitions on the water during the warmer months. Rowing Coach Frasier Christie approached Parks and Rec staff with an idea to promote and build the sport of rowing which resulted in a new class that has never been offered at the Rec Center.
The innovative Intro to Rowing class will instruct participants on proper movements of the rowing machine, stroke and pacing. There will be a focus on technical proficiency while participants increase flexibility, strength, and receive the benefits of fitness through rowing.
Classes are held on Monday mornings in the aerobic studio from 7-7:50am. The first class will be held on Monday, May 21st, 7:00 – 7:50 am. The first of 3 sessions will run from Monday, May 21st – Monday, June 18th with no class on Memorial Day on May 28th.
Class is free for annual members and daily pass holders on a drop-in basis. It is limited to 10 rowers to start, with the possibility of adding more depending on available space. Participants will check in at the front desk and ask for a ticket (up to 30 minutes before the start of class) to reserve equipment and hold a spot in the class. Because space is limited, annual members have the option to pay $25 for the first session reserve a place in the class.
Non-members and monthly members pay $30 for a five-class session. Daily pass holders pay a one day fee of $12/adults, $8/seniors /$5/youth.
