Over the past two weeks, every band at Saline Middle School and Saline High School received top marks at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association Band Festival.
Saline's bands received the highest rating possible: 1st Division Superior. Bands receiving this rating were the seventh grade band, eighth grade band, the nine grade band, the symphonic band and wind ensemble.
Every two years the bands take part in a thorough evaluation of their music knowledge and performance ability at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association Band Festival. Each band performs a program of three pieces of music for a panel of judges who evaluate and critique their performance. The bands also undergo a sight reading exam where they are given five minutes to study and then perform a piece of music they have never seen before.
Each judge then assigns the band a rating of 1-5 with 1 being "Superior."
In all, Saline's bands have received 20 1st Division ratings.
"This is a tremendous accomplishment for over 425 Saline band musicians in grades 7-12," said Nate Lampman, Director of Bands at Saline Area Schools. "Thank you to the Saline Area Schools administration, teachers, Saline Music Boosters, and parents who support the Saline band program and allow these students to pursue musical excellence."
