Saline High School finished 9th in Michigan at Science Olympiad State Competition, held this year at Michigan State University. The team won 9 medals in 23 events. There are nearly 200 teams in Michigan, 60 qualify for the state tournament. State Champion Northville and Runner up Grand Haven return to the National Championship in Colorado later in May.
“We had hoped to be one of the two advancing as this year’s team was very committed and very gifted.” said Nath Akella, Head Coach. “We had a few events not go as planned and it dropped us out of contention. Still, we are very proud of the hard work this team has put in. The 9th place is a great accomplishment in a really competitive state. Saline has beaten several state champions from other states during the course of the year."
Scoring was also delayed as Saline asked for an event review and was awarded an improved score.
"The season is long and demanding. It’s very difficult to get to the State Championship from our region as it is the strongest in the state. This was our 11th straight visit and we improved on our finish from last year," Akella said
