Auctioneer David Helmer plies his trade on behalf of the Foundation for Saline Area Schools Saturday at Travis Pointe Country Club.

Have you ever wondered what a top-notch auctioneer looks and sounds like? If you were at Snowblast Saturday night at Travis Pointe Country Club, you saw one in action.

David Helmer, of Braun and Helmer Auction Service, went to work for the Foundation for Saline Area Schools. In about an hour's time, he turned a package of generously donated items into nearly $35,000 for a non-profit foundation that has spent 30 years supporting educational initiatives in Saline schools.

The auction began with Helmer auctioning off a full movie theatre rental at Emagine Theatre in Saline. Emagine Theatre founder Paul Glantz sweetens the offer by giving away free pop and popcorn. Then as the bidding war continues, he doubles his donation, so there were two winners - each paying $1,600 for a free Emagine Theatre rental.
