BASEBALL: Morrison, Kiyabu and Collick Lead Saline Sweep of Pioneer

Alex Morrison is all smiles as he's greeted at home plate by teammates after his three-run home run in game one of Saline's doubleheader with Pioneer.

Saline swept a doubleheader from Pioneer to improve to 11-0 in the SEC Red Monday.

Playing at home, Saline won 10-2 and 6-4.

Alex Morrison hit a three-run home run to help the Hornets win the opener. Noah Nelson hit two doubles and drove in three runs. Ethan Collick was 2-for-5 with a triple, two runs and two RBI. Paul Kiyabu had two singles and  a double in three at bats.

Cole Daniels was the winner. He pitched five no-hit innings, giving up one run on eight walks. He struck out six. Ryan Steinhauer pitched an inning of scoreless relief. Jack Plumley gave up one run on two hits in the seventh.

Danny Weidmayer pitched one inning of scoreless relief to pick up the win in the second game. He gave up two hits and struck out one batter.

Alex Morrison went 2-for-2 with two doubles, a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Paul Kiyabu double and singled and drove in one run. Ethan Collick went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Jacob Ohren-Hoeft also doubled, scored and dove in a run. Vinnie Patteri singled and scored.

Lance Blaszak pitched three innings and gave up one unearned run on no hits, two walks and a strikeout. Saline made two errors. Kiyabu pitched two innings of relief and gave up three runs on five hits while striking out one.

Saline used a three-run third to build a 5-1 lead. Pioneer scored three runs in the fifth but the Hornets added one run bottom of the inning to take a 6-4 lead. The game was called due to darkness after Weidmayer pitched the scoreless inning in the sixth.

  2. Ethan Collick – Collick had three hits, including a double and a triple.
  3. Paul Kiyabu – Kiyabu didn’t have the kind of game he wanted on the mound, but he did go 5-for-5 at the plate.
