Steffi Bentley scored a career-high 17 points to lead Saline to an 84-42 victory over Romulus Tuesday as Saline improved to 9-1.
It was Saline’s second straight win. Saline hosts Monroe Friday evening.
The Hornets were beyond ready to play when the game finally tipped off after 6 p.m., more than 30 minutes later than scheduled. When the Romulus team arrived, they believed the junior varsity game played first and that the varsity team played at 7 p.m. The Romulus team resisted the Saline Athletic Department staff’s efforts to get them to start on time.
When the game finally began, Saline dominated, outscoring Romulus 28-8. The Hornets never turned back.
Bentley, who also had seven rebounds and three assists, was one of four Hornets in double figures in scoring. Nicole Sweetland scored 16 and have five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Ella Stemmer had 12 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and seven steals. Liz Sekerak scored 12 points and had two steals and two assists.
Kelsey Alexander (eight points, even rebounds, two steals), Maddy Welch (five points, three assists), Amera Boyd (four points, two blocks), Erin Reilly (three points, Sophie Gasparovic (three points) and Fiona Morcom (two points) also made the score sheet.
