Saline defeated Tecumseh, 48-35, in the regular season finale at Tecumseh High School Tuesday night.
Sophomore Ella Stemmer led Saline with 19 points, five rebounds and six steals. Nicole Sweetland (eight points, three rebounds, two steals), Kelsey Alexander (seven points, five rebounds, one steal) and Steffi Bentley (six points, five rebounds) aided the Saline victory.
Also scoring for the Hornets were Maddy Welch (four points), Amera Boyd (three points, three rebounds, six steals and two blocks), and Liz Sekerak (two points and three rebounds).
Saline limited Abbie McDowell, who committed to play basketball at Detroit Mercy, to just 13 points. McDowell had scored eight points in the first quarter as Saline built a 14-10 lead. The Hornets shut her down in the second quarter and limited Tecumseh to just four points in that stanza. Saline led 20-14 at halftime.
Saline led 26-19 after three quarters. The Hornets put the game away with strong shooting from the free throw line. Saline went 15-for-18 from the stripe in the fourth quarter. Stemmer, who was nine-for-nine on the game, made all eight of her shots in the fourth quarter. Welch went four-for-four and Bentley went two-for-two.
Stemmer scored 12 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter.
The Hornets now turn their attention to the playoffs. Saline opens at 5 p.m., March 6, at Pioneer against the winner of the Belleville-Huron game.
The Hornets have not played Belleville this season. Saline lost two games to Huron by a grand total of six points, including a 67-65 loss in double OT on Feb. 15.
