Saline’s varsity softball team tasted defeat for the first time of the season Friday in an 11-6 loss to Ypsilanti Lincoln.
Lincoln scored eight runs in the second inning to put the Hornets in a hole from which they couldn’t escape.
“They had a bunch of hits that just found holes. We had a bunch of girls playing out of position and the inning just snowballed,” coach Alicia Seegert said. “We kept battling but we couldn’t climb out of the hole.”
Ashley Heren hit a three-run home run for Saline. Brooke Bauer went 3-for-4 with a line drive home run and a double. Alex Pace went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored. Amanda Enners stroked an RBI double. Emma Schwartzenberger, Kelsey Alexander, Haley Evans and Anna-Jo Stuart also had hits.
Starter Emily Baldus gave up 11 runs but only five were earned. She allowed 12 hits and two walks while striking out three.
