Senior Catherine Loftus shot a tournament-low 72 as Saline took second on a tiebreaker at the Plymouth Invite at Fox Hills.
Saline shot 319 – tied with Brighton, who won on the score of the fifth player.
Loftus was joined on the all-tournament team by Sydney Page, who shot 80, and Stephanie Schick, who shot 81. Page was 10th and Schick was 11th. Molly Pribble shot 86. Gabi Solis scored 101.
The one-stroke loss to Brighton, considered one of Saline’s rivals for the state championship, was a lesson worth learning, according to coach Debbie Williams-Hoak
“The varsity ‘A’ girls shot another great round. We unfortunately just came up one shot short. It’s much better to have this happen now than at regionals or states,” Williams-Hoak said. “You hate to see this happen but it is necessary sometimes to reinforce the message that each and every shot is so important. Every one of the girls will tell you they each had at least one shot get away.”
Loftus had another great day for the Hornets.
“I am so happy for Catherine Loftus and her great round of 72 and first place finish. She played great,” Williams-Hoak said.
Saline’s JV team competed on the par-three course Fox Hills. Katie Sloan led the Hornets with an 89. Alexis Farquharson, Ava Hoffman, Olivia Helmer and Emily Dodge rounded out the JV team, which shot 395.
