The Lady Hornets won the SEC tournament and clinched the SEC Red Championship at Calderone Farms Monday.
Saline’s top four golfers posted an 18-hole score of 339 to win the tournament by 22 strokes. Pioneer was second at 361 and Skyline was third at 377.
Catherine Loftus shot 73 and was match medalist. Sydney page (83, fourth place) and Stephanie Schick (87, fifth place) also made the all-tournament team. Molly Pribble shot 96 to account for Saline’s scoring. Danielle Bunney (97) and Marge Wood (99) also golfed for the Lady Hornets.
Saline finished the season with a 10-0-0 record in the SEC Red.
“It was a great day for the Saline girls. They have played so well all season but they needed to do so again today to become overall SEC Champs and they did,” coach Debbie Williams-Hoak said.
Loftus’s score of 73 was out of this world.
“Catherine played so well. She has been doing great this past month and is being a great leader for her teammates,” Williams-Hoak said.
Schick and Page joined Loftus on both the all-tournament team and all-conference team.
“I am so happy for Sydney Page making the all-conference team. She suffered such heartbreak the last two seasons missing the all-conference team by half a point each year. She left no doubt this year with a third place finish in conference points,” Williams-Hoak said. “It is also great to see Stephanie Schick make the all-conference team. She works very hard and is very deserving of this honor.”
Williams-Hoak credited the entire team for the victory.
“If you look at the success we have had up to this point every one of these six ladies have been instrumental in our team success. It is great to see and fun to be around,” she said.
Saline turns its attention to the regional tournament held Oct. 5 at Washtenaw Golf Club.
