The Eagles lost a tough one to Monroe, snapping their two game winning streak. Monroe’s Jared banks rank for four touchdowns and 257 yards.
Earlier this year, Skyline beat Okemos 27-15 with QB Davion Pipkins running for 2 TDs and throwing another.

The 2-2 Skyline Eagles have the attention of the Saline Hornets, said Saline Head Coach Joe Palka. (Honestly, Joe, when is that not true of your next opponent?).

Now in their ninth yeear, the Eagles are hoping to make the playoffs for the first time. They’re off to a pretty decent start, at 2-2. Skyline beat Okemos, 27-15, and Adrian, 41-12. The opeened the season with a 35-12 loss to a tough Warren-Mott team. Things went south for Skyline last week in a 39-7 loss to Monroe.

“They played a respectable game against a tough Mott team. The beat Okemos and Adrian. They were bruised up a bit last week, so I’m sure they’re fired up to come in here and play us,” Palka said. “Certainly, they have our attention.”

Skyline has athletes - but not a lot of depth. Their roster won’t stretch 40 yards like Saline’s.

“We have the advantage in numbers. So I’m hopeful we can wear them down. We need to stay after them,” Palka said.

The offense revolves around QB Davion Pipkins.

“He’s a good thrower and he can get yards with his feet too,” Palka said. “They also have a tall wide receiver (Brian Scurlock) who is a threat to get behind us and make plays.”

Defensively, the Hornets will try at limit the big plays, like they did last week against Bedford.

“We need to shut down the run and pressur the quarterback,” Palka said.

Offensively, expect more running. With TE Brendan Murphy at a hockey tournament, the Hornets will use a 2-back formation. So you’ll see more Brendan Munday, Hayden Scott and Joel Klomega.
