Saline salvaged a 1-1 tie with Novi in a sometimes frustrating game played in windy conditions at Hornet Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Ryan Nichols scored with 12 minutes to play to tie the game.
"I thought we played well. Novi is a very good team. I'm satisfied with the result," Saline coach Ryan Williams said.
Novi scored early in the first half to gain the advantage. Saline played well but couldn’t find the equalizer in the first half.
In the second half, with the wind at their backs, the Hornets dominated territorially. Saline failed to capitalize on several set pieces. At one point Anthony Sweier launched a shot off the goal post. The rebound bounced out to Zeke Gray, who sent the bouncing rebound over the yawning cage.
“It kind of felt like it might be one of those games,” Saline coach Ryan Williams said.
Finally, a long pass sent Williams up the left wing and he placed a hard shot inside the post to tie the score.
Saline had several late chances, including a corner kick and free kick in the final minutes of play.
The Hornets visit Huron Tuesday with the SEC Red championship at stake. A win will give the Hornets the championship.
Michigan Power Rodding 3 Stars
- Ryan Nichols – Came through in the clutch again. When this team needs a goal late in the game, Nichols finds ways to deliver.
- Anthony Sweier – He runs and fights and works and runs and fights and works. Few players match his speed and intensity.
- Jack Fenelon – Had a great game transitioning defensive stops into offensive attacks.
