Saline’s split its doubleheader with rival Bedford, 2-5 and 11-1, in SEC Red varsity softball action Thursday.
Saline outhit Bedford 10-9 but lost the opener, 5-2.
Starter Alex Pace struggled with control, walking eight. She went seven innings and gave up five earned runs on nine hits. Pace struck out eight.
Kelsey Alexander went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored. Emma Schwartzenberger went 2-for-3 with a triple. Katie Bauer doubled and scored. McKenzie Marion had an RBI single. Isabella Darmos, Brooke Bauer, and Pace also singled for Saline.
Bedford scored five runs in top of the fourth inning.
Saline bounced back in a big way in the night cap. With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the second Saline erupted for six runs. The Hornets added two more in the third and never looked back. The game was called due to the mercy rule in the fifth.
Dani Cobello pitched five innings and earned the win. She gave up on unearned run on four hits and a walk, while striking out seven.
Saline pounded 14 hits – and everyone in the lineup had at least one hit.
Schwartzenberger went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI. Brooke Bauer was 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI. Ashley Heren went 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI. Cobello was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Darmos was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Alexander scored three runs. Lindsey Rittenhouse, Marion and Maddie Demlow also had hits for Saline.
Saline improved to 3-2 overall.
