Saline was no match for Pioneer as the SEC Red rivals met at Saline High School for a swim and dive meet. Pioneer came away with a 110-76 victory.
Sophomore Ethan Saunders had a strong night Saline. He won the 200-yard freestyle and qualified for the state meet by swimming the race in 1:45.54. Later in the meet, Saunders won the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.16 seconds – another state qualifying time.
Also winning for Saline were Cole Nelson (100-yard butterfly, 53.67), Blake Coy (500-yard freestyle, 4:50.36) and Davis Klein (100-yard backstroke, 54.30.) All won with state qualifying times.
Pioneer swept the relays. Cole Nelson, Klein, Joshua Mahaney and Matthew Hardt were second in the 200-yard medley relay.
Saunders won the 200-yard freestyle medley. Freshman Blake Coy was third in 1:48.77.
Klein took second in the 200-yard IM, with a state-qualifying time of 1:59.03. Senior Josh Willwerth was third in the 50-yard freestyle, while Hardt was fifth.
Jason Heisler was second in diving with a score of 193.70. Joshua Birch, 156, and Jacob Niethammer, 149.2, were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Cole Nelson, a senior, won the butterfly in 43.67. Mahaney was third in 54.36.
Willwerth was second in the 100-yard freestyle in 50.43. Cooper Osgood was fifth in 51.32.
Blake Coy won the 500 in 4:50.36.
Saunders, Hartdt, Coy and Willwerth settled for second in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Klein won the 100-yard backstroke in 54.30. Cole Nelson was third in 57.55.
Saunders won the backstroke in 59.16. Hardt finished third in 1:02.05.
Willwerth, Mahaney, Klein and Saunders swam the 400 freestyle relay in 3:21.55. They finished second.
