Track & Field: Hunt, Wood Lead Saline to 3rd Place at Region

Saline’s girls raced to a third-place finish at the MHSAA regional track and field meet held Friday at Ypsilanti-Lincoln.

Led by regional champions Madison Wood and Lauryn Hunt, the Hornets finished with 110 points. Pioneer won with 138 points. Skyline was second with 110.

Here are your state qualifiers from the Saline girls

  • Junior Lauryn Hunt won the 400 in 58.02 seconds. She won by nearly two seconds. She also qualified in the 200 meters, in which she placed second by .02 seconds. Hunt finished in 25.84 seconds.
  • Freshman Madison Wood won the 800 in 2:19.83. She qualified in the 1600 based on time, placing third in 5:05.52.
  • Kayla Fortino was second in the 800 in 2:20.8.
  • Junior Amera Boyd was second in the 100 in a personal best time of 12.54 seconds.
  • The 4-by-400 relay team of Madison Wood, Suzanne Chuparkoff, Lauryn Hunt and Kayla Fortino placed second in 4:02.48.
  • The 4-by-800 relay team of Emma Cummings, Kayla Fortino, Ella Woehlke and Madison Wood was second in 9:22.37.
  • The 4-by-200 relay team of Hunt, Chuparkoff, Boyd and Greta Downey qualified in 1:43.63.
  • The 4-by-100 relay team of Boyd, Charlotte Rittenhouse, Downey and Cook placed fifth in 50.43 - .11 seconds better than the state cut.

Other all-regional performances that contributed to the scoring came from:

  • Suzanne Chuparkoff, 5th in the 400.
  • Taylor Yaklich, fourth in the 800.
  • Madeline Stewart, fifth, and Nicole Dillman, sixth, in the 1600.
  • Fortino, fifth, and Madison Stern, sixth, in the 3200.
  • Emily Cook, sixth in the 300 hurdles.
  • Ashley Hannah, sixth in the discus.
  • Greta Downey, sixth in the long jump.
