Baseball: Saline Tunes Up For Districts with 4-3 Win Over Farmington

Michael Schuby singled in Saline's third run to tie the game in the third inning.

The Saline varsity baseball team tuned up for Saturday’s district tournament by defeating Farmington, 4-3, at home Tuesday.

Saline broke a 3-3 tie in the fourth inning when Thomas Miller’s sacrifice fly scored Richard Hovde.

Cole Daniels picked up the win in relief. He walked three and gave up no hits in 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Kellen Huang pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings for the save. He gave up two hits and walked one. In all, Saline pitchers gave up seven hits. Starter Sean O’Keefe went two innings. He gave up three hits and an earned run while striking out two. Josh Nelson pitched the third, giving up two unearned runs on two hits and a walk.

Saline had seven hits on Farmington starter Collin Finn.

Farmington scored one in the first. Damon Manasa and Jordan Hoke began the game with singles. O’Keefe got the third hitter on a force-out and then retired the next two batters, leaving a man on third.

Saline got two back in the second. Sean O’Keefe doubled. He scored on a single by Cole Daniels. After Hovde walked, Daniels scored on a single by Ted Eppinga.

Farmington regained the lead in the third. Alex Magrum led off with a single. Nelson walked Hoke. Nelson got Daniel Carty to hit into a fielder’s choice. Arie Bentley reached base on an error, allowing Magrum to score. Deven Mahanti singled in Carty.

Saline tied the game in the bottom of the third. With one out O’Keefe walked. Jake Finkbeiner singled. Michael Schuby singled to score O’Keefe.

Saline added the run in the fourth to take the lead for good.
