Saline Police News: Woman Cited After Striking Motorcyclist

A 44-year-old Manitou Beach man was transported to hospital after his motorcycle was struck Sept. 26.

Just after 5 p.m., an eastbound Mercury Sable driven by a 74-year-old Milan woman turned left into the Busch’s parking lot when it struck a westbound motorcycle

The motorcyclist did not have time to avoid the crash, according to a Saline Police report.

He was separated from his motorcycle and transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital by Huron Valley Ambulance. The woman was cited for failure to yield.

Man Faces Home Invasion Charges

Kyle James Haertl, a 22-year-old Saline man, faces second degree home invasion charges.

Haertl is accused of stealing a laptop computer and plasma screen television from family members in Saline, according to Saline Police records. A lap top computer went missing from a Saline home Sept. 22 and television taken Sept. 26, according to the report. The items were taken to a pawn shop.

If convicted of second degree home invasion,  Haertl faces up to 15 years in prison and a $3,000 in fines. He is also charged with larceny in a building.

Vandals Strike Brecon Park

Vandals struck Brecon Park over the weekend. On Sunday, Saline Police discovered that a porta-john was tipped on its side. Police also found a damaged Huffy bicycle in the park. A neighbor told police that his wife heard loud noises coming from the park between 11 p.m. Saturday and 1`a.m. Sunday. He told police that he collected several beer bottles from the scene the next day.

Guns Seized from Tecumseh Man's Vehicle

Saline Police arrested a 28-year-old Tecumseh man and seized guns he was carrying in his vehicle Sept. 28. Police stopped the vehicle for making a left turn on to northbound Harris Street. The driver told police he was carrying three long guns and a pistol. He said he was taking the guns to his uncle’s house on Pleasant Lake Road because his family is moving, according to the police report. He later told police that he was moving the guns because Tecumseh Police were investigating a family member’s home for allegedly growing marijuana in violation of the law, according to the report. Charges are pending the result of the investigation.
