Brooke Bourassa, the 18-year-old Saline bicyclist injured in a collision with an asphalt truck Wednesday, was listed in critical condition Thursday evening at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, according to hospital spokesperson Lauren Smoker.

Bourassa is a Saline Area Schools student with special needs.

She was riding her bicycle south on the western sidewalk along Industrial Drive around 3:45 p.m. when she turned left into traffic at the crosswalk at Campus Parkway, according to Saline Police. She collided with an asphalt truck driven by a 69-year-old Ypsilanti man who was not hurt. Her bicycle struck the side of the moving asphalt truck. Statements from witnesses at the scene indicate the truck driver had a green light.

Bourassa was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital by Huron Valley Ambulance. Saline Area Fire Department assisted at the scene. Police closed the road temporarily and continued to direct traffic at the intersection while Pittsfield Township Police investigated after the road reopened.
