James S. Bowker, age 85, passed away June 1, 2019 at the Linden Square Assisted Living Center in Saline, MI. He was born December 7, 1933 in Dickson, TN, the son of Felix E. and Lorene M. (Dotson) Bowker. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, including a tour of duty in Korea. On July 9, 1955, he married Maxine Hall; and she preceded him in death in September 2015.
James worked hard to put himself through college, and he graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1959 with a degree in electrical engineering. He then began his career with Ford Motor Company, working first in Pennsylvania and then in Michigan. He retired in 1991 after more than 30 years of service.
Surviving are two children, Pamela (Kenneth) Coleman of Saline and Douglas (Marie) Bowker of Ann Arbor; four grandchildren, Thomas Coleman, Daniel (Sheri) Bowker, Denise Bowker, and David Bowker; two great-granddaughters, Makenzie and Aubrey Bowker; sister-in-law, Kay (Howard) Harbison, brother-in-law Wayne (Sherry) Hall; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maxine; his parents; his sister, Jean Estes Arthurs; and his brother, Martin Bowker.
The family will receive friends at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. A private burial service will take place in Oakwood Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
