Marilyn J. Rentschler, age 95, passed away in Ann Arbor, on Friday, August 9, 2019. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Warren Rentschler, 95.
The Rentschlers spent their active lives in Saline, where they raised two daughters, Ann Pradel, 52, of Port Washington, WI, and Barbara Hassell, 59, of Elmira, NY. She is also survived by her son in law, James Hassell, 70, and her grandsons, William Pradel, 18, and Ian Hassell, 7, her brother in law and sister in law, Allen and Florine Rentschler, her sister in law, Beverly Rentschler, as well as many nieces and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Frederick Hertler, and two brothers, Robert and Frederick, buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Saline.
For years the Rentschlers resided on their three-generation farm on the outskirts of Saline. Their family built the home in 1906. In 1998, the farm was bought by the City of Saline and maintained as a historic site by the Saline Historical Society.
For many years people from all over the area have been drawn to this historic farm and have regularly stopped to comment on the home, the barn, and the grazing sheep. In 2013, The Rentschler Farm Museum was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Throughout their marriage, the Rentschlers were devoted members of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Saline and dedicated citizens of the Saline community.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Saline, MI on August 26, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. with a visitation from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service with a luncheon to follow.
