Great Group of Salinians Honored During Hall of Fame Weekend, Sept. 15-16

The Foundation for Saline Area Schools announced the 2017 Saline Hall of Fame Class. Four members of the class attended the announcement in the spring. Pictured are Mary Converse, Carol Pirkola, Hall Morningstar and Cristela Scanlon. They will be inducted this fall with Ellen Ewing, Katherine Ramsland, Mike Smith and Becca Sweitzer.

The​ ​Foundation​ ​for​ ​Saline​ ​Area​ ​Schools​ ​will​ ​be​ ​inducting​ ​the​ ​4th​ ​Hall​ ​of​ ​Fame​ ​class​ ​the​ ​weekend​ ​of September​ ​15-16. ​This​ ​year,​ ​the​ ​Foundation​ ​will​ ​be​ ​honoring​ ​the​ ​following​ ​eight​ ​individuals: 

  • Mrs.​ ​Ellen​ ​Ewing​ ​-​ ​Distinguished​ ​Educator​ ​-​ ​Superintendent​ ​of​ ​Saline​ ​Area​ ​Schools​ ​from​ ​1993-2001
  • Mrs.​ ​Mary​ ​Gordon​ ​Converse​ ​-​ ​Distinguished​ ​Educator​ ​-​ ​47​ ​year​ ​teacher​ ​at​ ​Saline​ ​High​ ​School
  • Mr.​ ​Hamilton​ ​Morningstar​ ​-​ ​Distinguished​ ​Educator​ ​-​ ​Long-time​ ​special​ ​education​ ​teacher​ ​who​ ​taught​ ​at Jensen,​ ​Houghton​ ​and​ ​Heritage​ ​Elementary​ ​Schools
  • Mrs.​ ​Carol​ ​Pirkola​ ​-​ ​Distinguished​ ​Educator​ ​-​ ​Long-time​ ​early​ ​childhood​ ​education​ ​teacher​ ​who​ ​taught at​ ​Jensen​ ​Elementary,​ ​Saline​ ​High​ ​School​ ​and​ ​Union​ ​School
  • Mrs.​ ​Katherine​ ​Ramsland​ ​(Johnston)​ ​-​ ​Distinguished​ ​Alumni​ ​-​ ​Professor​ ​of​ ​Forensic​ ​Psychology​ ​& Criminal​ ​Justice,​ ​prolific​ ​author​ ​and​ ​consultant
  • Mrs.​ ​Cristela​ ​Scanlon​ ​-​ ​Distinguished​ ​Service​ ​-​ ​14A4​ ​District​ ​Court​ ​Probation​ ​Officer,​ ​facilitated​ ​Saline MS​ ​mock​ ​trials
  • Mr.​ ​Michael​ ​Smith​ ​-​ ​Distinguished​ ​Educator​ ​-​ ​28​ ​year​ ​teacher,​ ​29​ ​year​ ​coach​ ​at​ ​Saline​ ​High​ ​School, National​ ​Coach​ ​of​ ​the​ ​Year
  • Ms.​ ​Becca​ ​Sweitzer​ ​-​ ​Distinguished​ ​Alumni​ ​who​ ​has​ ​performed​ ​on-stage​ ​with​ ​Jennifer​ ​Lopez,​ ​Jay-Z,​ ​No Doubt​ ​and​ ​LeAnn​ ​Rimes​ ​and​ ​appeared​ ​in​ ​films​ ​such​ ​as​ ​Austin​ ​Powers​ ​in​ ​Goldmember,​ ​Behind​ ​the Candelabra​ ​and​ ​La​ ​La​ ​Land

 Hall​ ​of​ ​Fame​ ​weekend​ ​begins​ ​with​ ​a​ ​tailgate​ ​honoring​ ​the​ ​class​ ​of​ ​2017​ ​on​ ​Friday,​ ​September​ ​15.​ ​The​ ​group will​ ​be​ ​then​ ​publicly​ ​introduced​ ​at​ ​halftime​ ​of​ ​the​ ​varsity​ ​football.​ ​The​ ​formal​ ​induction​ ​ceremony​ ​will​ ​take place​ ​on​ ​Saturday,​ ​September​ ​16th. 

The​ ​Foundation​ ​for​ ​Saline​ ​Area​ ​Schools​ ​Hall​ ​of​ ​Fame​ ​was​ ​created​ ​to​ ​permanently​ ​honor​ ​individuals​ ​who​ ​have demonstrated​ ​outstanding​ ​individual​ ​ability,​ ​leadership,​ ​character,​ ​personal​ ​drive​ ​and​ ​dedication​ ​in​ ​their​ ​service to​ ​Saline​ ​Area​ ​Schools​ ​and,​ ​by​ ​extension,​ ​the​ ​community​ ​of​ ​Saline.​ ​With​ ​a​ ​sponsoring​ ​partnership​ ​from​ ​Old National​ ​Bank,​ ​the​ ​Hall​ ​of​ ​Fame​ ​is​ ​permanently​ ​displayed​ ​near​ ​the​ ​auditorium​ ​in​ ​Saline​ ​High​ ​School​ ​-​ ​visible​ ​to students,​ ​teachers​ ​and​ ​guests​ ​more​ ​than​ ​350​ ​days​ ​per​ ​year.
