ALLENDALE -- Saline is in third place after one day of action at the MHSAA Division 1 Girls Finals Tournament at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University.
The Hornets scored 326 and sit 15 strokes behind Traverse City. Brighton is in second, two strokes back of the leaders.
Catherine Loftus leads all Hornets. She shot 75 to put her at three over par, six strokes back of leader Anika Dy, of Travis City West. Loftus started wonderfully. After bogeying her second hole, she responded with back-to-back birdies. She had a double bogey on the ninth hole that set her back on the leaderboard. Loftus is tied for fourth.
Fellow senior Molly Pribble also had a great opening day. She shot 77 to put her at five over part. She’s tied for seventh. Pribble was plus early in her round when she responded with back-to-back birdies. Like Loftus, she had trouble with the nine hole and took a double bogey. She sat at -6 until birdying her last hole.
Senior Sydney Page shot 83, or 11 over par, to tie her for 29th. Page parred half her holes. She shot seven bogeys and two double bogeys.
Senior Stephanie Schick shot 91 to put her at 19 over par. Schick parred her first two holes and was at +1 after four holes. But on her fifth hole she shot 11 on a par five – and that put her well below her usual standing.
Gabi Solis shot 94 to tie her for 63rd.
Emily Woodman is expected to be Saline’s fifth golfer as play resumes Saturday.
