Hunt Sets New SHS Record in the 200 Meters

Sophomore Lauryn Hunt won two events and set a Saline High School record in the event in which she placed second Tuesday at Pioneer.

Hunt’s record setting run came in the 200 meters, which she finished in 25.23 seconds. She broke the record of 25.26, set by Corrie Castro in 2007. Hunt finished second to Pioneer’s Tiffany Cernej-Garcia, who won in 24.99.

Hunt won the 100 meters in 12.49 seconds. She won the 400 meters in 59.22 seconds.

The Hornets’ only other victory on the track was from Alexa Stern, who finished the 3200 meter run in 12:31.18. Saline took the top 5 spots in the race, with Rebecca Cantrell, Jennifer Cantrell, Madeline Stewart and Rachel Rosati coming in behind Sterns.

Jessi Larson was second in the 1600 meters (5:30.95). Kayla Fortino was third in the 800 meters (2:26.16). Suzanne Chuparkhoff was third in the 400 meters (1:02.56). Emily Cook was third in the 100 hurdles (17:11) and third in the 300 meter hurdles (49.71).

Senior Sloane Pepper was Saline’s lone victor in the field. She cleared 5-02 to win the high jump. Maggie McGreal was third in the discus, throwing 85-06. Olivia Vance was fourth in the shot put, throwing 29-11.5. Charlotte Peterson was second in pole vault, clearing 9 feet. Greta Downey was second in long jump, leaping 15-01.
