Jake McCandless scores for Saline in the Hornets win over Lincoln.

Saline wasted little time disposing of Lincoln as the MHSAA Division 1 playoffs began at Hornet Stadium Wednesday.

Zeke Gray scored twice as Saline defeated Ypsilanti-Lincoln, 8-0, in a game shortened due to the mercy rule.

It took the Hornets a few moments to break the seal against Lincoln. Brayden Stavros opened the scoring, kicking in a cross from Zeke Gray, who'd been awarded a free kick along the right sideline.

The Hornets doubled their lead with Gray's first goal. Christian Rossi's corner kick was knocked down by Jaden Pickett. Gray found the loose ball and scored to make it 2-0.

Saline led 3-0 after Stavros sped down the left flank and centered to Rossi, who went bar down.

The Hornets increased their lead to four when Connor Martin found room on the right wing and stuck the ball past the keeper.

Saline opened the second half with Gray scoring his second goal - this time on the penalty kick. Jake McCandless made it 6-0 when he took a centering pass from the speedy Eli Routt and scored from the center of the box. Routt followed that up with a goal of his own.

Saline clinched the mercy rule victory when James Kolasinski headed a shot into the goal.

Saline advances to face host Dexter at 7 p.m., Oct. 16 in the district semifinal. Pioneer and Skyline are playing on the other side of the bracket.

Saline and Dexter battled to a scoreless draw early in the season.
